What's Weird ATX
In our last issue, one of our events had a broken link! Resharing it here with the correct url. And in order to make sure this lands in your primary inbox, here’s a bit of midweek news:
Wildflower Church threw a Roots & Revelry fundraiser with Lebanese food and the Viva Palestina Orchestra to help with their financial situation, while Radio East's Holiday Hootenanny brought a stacked lineup of live music. Sam's Town Point hosted the Train Songz zine release party, and Ground Floor Theatre's production of "Parade" is apparently rivaling the Broadway revival. For holiday vibes, the Luminations display at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is getting great buzz, plus the 37th Street Christmas lights are always a classic free walk that pairs perfectly with Amy's ice cream on Guadalupe afterward.
The big food news this week is Two Goose Market & Barbecue opening December 3rd at 706 N. Lamar, already stirring up TikTok controversy with critics calling the brisket "dry" despite bringing in pitmaster Justin Abercrombie from Rollin Smoke BBQ. The spot does affordable weekday lunches and premium Saturday barbecue with $36 prime brisket. Kappo Kappo opened at Austin Proper Hotel with an 11-course Japanese-French fusion tableside experience, and Kitty Cohen's Festival of Lights pop-up is running through January 2nd with Hanukkah cocktails including a standout Latke Punch made with potato vodka and apple cider. Austin bars are also doing Espresso Martini Week through December 14th at spots like Flower Shop and Holiday on 7th.
