What's Weird ATX
Well folks, this April has been particularly pleasant in terms of the weather so far. Better get out there and enjoy it before it starts to heat up! Lots of awesome events this week as you’ll see below.
Separately, I’ve been thinking a lot about local business. They are the lifeblood of what makes Austin super special, and we are going to have to get out there and support them during these tough times. This is an encouragement to BUY LOCAL as much as you possibly can, it’s essential to the health of our community.
Which type of new business would you most like to see open in your neighborhood? |
Last week in Austin:
an anonymous daredevil transformed a downtown construction crane into their personal thrill ride. Dangling from the Republic building with selfie stick in hand, the mysterious acrobat executed wide arcs over Guadalupe Street before vanishing like morning fog, leaving authorities with nothing but viral video evidence and bewildered expressions.
Willie Nelson, at nearly 92, announced his 77th studio album "Oh What A Beautiful World."
The city bid farewell to Thom's Market after 18 years, with all three locations closing their doors on Easter Sunday following owner Bill Thom's decision to retire. The corpse wasn't even cold before "Austin's Select Market" swooped in, promising to reopen the locations within 48 hours under fresh branding.
Coming up this weekend, we have a double-header: Eeyore's Birthday transforms Pease Park into a costume-filled benefit festival on Saturday with drum circles and community revelry, while Austin Psych Fest brings Explosions in the Sky and Dinosaur Jr. to The Far Out's oak-shaded grounds April 25-27 for three days of mind-bending sounds and visuals.
