What's Weird ATX
Our business community really stepped up during the flood crisis, with dozens of local establishments donating profits to relief efforts. P. Terry's ran out of food on its giving day, ultimately raising $150,000, while Austin FC joined with other Texas MLS teams to contribute $500,000 and ACL pledged $1 million to flood relief. Other big Austin names donating 100% of their profits included Kerbey Lane Cafe, Veracruz All Natural, Hopdoddy and the entire Guy + Larry restaurant group. The collective generosity helped push the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund past $30 million!
City leadership stayed busy this week, unveiling the proposed $6.3 billion budget for fiscal year 2025-26, earmarking $56 million for housing initiatives intended to tackle the city's growth. In tech news, Tesla expanded its robotaxi service coverage area, adding more zones to the autonomous ride service that launched in June.
In food news, Austin added some exciting new flavors this week with Old Alley Hot Pot opening July 9th at 11900 Metric Boulevard, bringing authentic Sichuan hot pot to North Austin. Wheatsville Food Co-op also announced a major $6.5 million expansion, acquiring two Fresh Plus locations in Hyde Park and Allandale to better serve the community.
