What's Weird ATX
OK, so I lied about the big announcement— it needs a little more time to bake in the oven (however, folks over in our Discord already have access!) Instead this week, I have something just as amazing— we are starting a Community Spotlight segment. I’ve noticed that folks are yearning for something more beyond just events, y’all are wanting to find your people! To that end, I will try to highlight Austin’s communities as often as I can. There are so many great ones, and not many places to find them!
So without further ado!
Community Spotlight: Austin Women's Adventures & Events
Karleigh and Friends!
Meet Karleigh Lindsay, the heart behind Austin Women's Adventures & Events, a community that's been bringing together Austin women for meaningful connections for three years. What started in 2022 with just four attendees has blossomed into a vibrant network of hundreds of women who gather monthly for everything from "walks and deep talks" around Lady Bird Lake to aerial arts classes and clothing swaps. After losing her original 6,300-member Facebook group overnight due to a trademark dispute, Karleigh has been able to successfully rebuild the community, attracting what she calls "the kindest and coolest girls in Austin" for events that skip the small talk and dive straight into real friendship-building conversations.
What sets this community apart is its intentional focus on empowerment and genuine connection. Instead of surface-level networking, Karleigh encourages participants to ask the big questions: "What are your goals? Where do you want to be in six months? What do you value in friendship?" Her philosophy extends beyond events: "What I see is that there are heart-centered humans with huge visions and amazing dreams who instead of taking action are sitting around and wondering if they're worthy or capable. I am single-handedly trying to show and remind people that you're here so you're worthy. And the way you become capable is by taking action and trying." The events often incorporate spiritual elements like moon circles and sound baths, while partnering with local women-owned businesses to keep money in the community.
Coming Up This Week with AWAE: Join the full moon night swim on Tuesday for gratitude, release, and community under the Sagittarius moon at Barton Springs, or explore McKinney Falls on Saturday, June 14th for Walks, talks, and waterfalls. Both events embody the community's mission of meaningful connection in Austin's beautiful outdoor spaces.
