Made it out to the Austin Studio Tour this past weekend. It was beyond lovely!
I’ll say I was a little bit apprehensive as I was worried I would feel strange just walking into someone’s home, as a lot of the studios are the artists’ residences, but it actually was perfectly easy and welcoming! Each house that is part of the tour is clearly marked with a beautifully designed Austin Studio Tour sign, and normally the doors are open and usually there are a few smiling arts appreciators milling about.

Art by Rik Gern & Yuliya Lanina
I visited Brett Madden’s collection (IG @furniture.madden) of elegant, funky and modern wood pieces and I wanted ALL of them! I saw another place with cute ceramics and then ended up at Kenny Dorham’s Backyard (more famous for their jazz and blues jams at various days throughout the week) where I met the formidable Rik Gern, and you can see some samples of his jaw dropping psychedelic work above. It’s hard to bring something back from your exploration but it looks like Rik has done it over and over! He’ll be at Kenny Dorham’s next week too, so stop by and say hi and buy one of these, they are really incredible.
I’m super excited to tour again this coming weekend, especially hope to catch some places South and maybe by my old stomping grounds in North Loop.
I may throw together some quick mini tours within the Tour by neighborhood (and by that I mean a set of routes for easy navigation), if I do, watch out for them on the WGA instagram, that’s where I will post em!
Really can’t encourage y’all to go take part in this event more. It’s so amazing to get to know your neighbors on such an intimate level, in a way that only art allows for.
Since y’all love it, here is the food news: The Austin Food & Wine Festival took over Auditorium Shores Nov 7-9, featuring 70+ restaurants, celebrity chefs like Tiffany Derry and Joshua Weissman, and Chef Tim Love's hands-on grilling sessions. Unfortunately, it seemed to rather underwhelm Austinites, as people were upset by the expensive ticket and long lines. For new openings, Hattie B's Hot Chicken opened their second Austin location at Domain Northside on Nov 5, Everbowl (açaí bowls and smoothies) launched Nov 7 on Austin's north side, and Round Table Pizza held their grand opening Nov 8 with the first 100 guests receiving free pizza for a year. Mendocino Farms started serving seasonal sandwiches and salads Nov 4 in North Austin. Coming up this week, Leona Botanical Cafe & Bar (the highly anticipated 5-acre botanical garden collaboration between Dee Dee and Veracruz All Natural) opens Nov 11, and Mama Betty's Tex-Mex second location plus new cocktail lounge Foxtail open Nov 13 on Burnet Road. Shokunin, a new California-inspired sushi bar from the team behind Sushi by Scratch, Pasta|Bar, and NADC Burger, opened Oct 30 in East Austin and is still generating buzz.

Where to Invest $100,000 According to Experts
Investors face a dilemma. Headlines everywhere say tariffs and AI hype are distorting public markets.
Now, the S&P is trading at over 30x earnings—a level historically linked to crashes.
And the Fed is lowering rates, potentially adding fuel to the fire.
Bloomberg asked where experts would personally invest $100,000 for their September edition. One surprising answer? Art.
It’s what billionaires like Bezos, Gates, and the Rockefellers have used to diversify for decades.
Why?
Contemporary art prices have appreciated 11.2% annually on average
…And with one of the lowest correlations to stocks of any major asset class (Masterworks data, 1995-2024).
Ultra-high net worth collectors (>$50M) allocated 25% of their portfolios to art on average. (UBS, 2024)
Thanks to the world’s premiere art investing platform, now anyone can access works by legends like Banksy, Basquiat, and Picasso—without needing millions. Want in? Shares in new offerings can sell quickly but…
