What's Weird ATX

Thanks for your patience, it was my birthday weekend so I was running around town and thought y’all would be understanding about a Tuesday send. Some of the places I visited this weekend to celebrate: Freddo ATX ($3 mimosas/$6 Bloody Marys on Sunday), HEB, of course, where I found several reasons to do my famous coupon dance, Spokesman Coffee, a really phenomenal massage at milk & Honey (ask for Geovanna!) and then finally the Elephant Room for monday night jazz jam! It’s a great deal if you are into jazz and we even caught the end of the Austin Jazz Band big band show (12 horns on stage!)
Speaking of muuuusic, ACL is almost here. I’m not gonna talk about that bc everyone else does, but instead, I think it’s a great time to debut a feature we had mentioned we may start a few weeks back, our local Austin band spotlight! Y’all were very interested, so here we go!
This spotlight and review comes to us courtesy of Weldon Fulton, a fantastic local musician, instructor, and also my husband. Let’s hope he enjoys moonlighting as a music journalist :)

“I've been looking forward to seeing the self-described psych-punk band Floating Cube since they first announced themselves, and I was not disappointed. Despite being a duo they have a very dense and dynamic sound owing to guitarist Jake Stuart’s (Tearjerk) skilled tone construction and drummer Cari Gi’s (Sailor Poon) heavy hand. If you're into hardcore music you will not be disappointed; Floating Cube is as raw as any grunge or hardcore punk band preceding them. Hearing them live was like very much enjoying getting kicked in the gut. It’s hard to find contemporary or old school acts to compare them to, though they are somewhat akin to instrumentals of the Melvins; It’s grunge in the dictionary sense as there are elements of metal and punk but they are somewhat unique with a surprising yet tasteful dash of psych/prog. This duo has a great energy in their stage presence; they are tight and focused and the drummer is barefoot (as God intended). If you’d like to see Floating Cube you can catch their next show at Hole in the Wall at 9pm on October 2nd! “
